PLEASE feel free to post this to [Unknown site tag] XD As the mod, I give permission. But seriously, we take all sorts of things as long as Zoro and Usopp are primary and this, although it's as much about Luffy in its own way, is perfectly acceptable.
Now then:
The mood of this piece is EXCELLENT. It captures Zoro's hallucinatory ideas, that kind of state where it still feels like being trapped in a dream but not really, perfectly well and gives a very good flow to the writing.
Usopp's attitude is one that I'm glad to see. He's better in many ways than Zoro at precisely what happens here and him taking the initiative makes perfect sense. As for Luffy and the points made and the way he's intertwined in the mix and just exactly what each of the three of them feels, I like that it's clear and vague at the same time, like there's bits I can only speculate about and others that I know with perfect certainty.
This bit of dialogue: “You are,” Usopp insisted. “And sometimes I wonder…” His voice turned more thoughtful: “…I wonder, if the rest of us – except Robin I guess – could be more serious more often, maybe then you would laugh more. Would smile more. Like a see-saw, y’know?” He gestured the movement of a see-saw that first leaned all to one side and then swung into equilibrium. “But I don’t like to think like that,” he continued. “It’s not really fun.”
No, it wasn’t, and Zoro didn’t like for him to think that way either. They were fine like they were, in his opinion – and if they ever did want to change it shouldn’t be for that reason. But that didn’t seem necessary to say. He’d already said too much, anyway. was amazing and my favorite part of the fic. It captures Zoro very very well.
This is superb work and something that I'm going to enjoy reading again and again.
Glad to see that I'm not the only one intrigued by the idea of the three of them.
