Ranma 1/2: One Page Per Volume, Part 32

This is from the story where Kodachi confronts her childhood rival Asuka the White Lily: they have a bet about who's got the coolest boyfriend. What I love about this story is that for once it's Akane who gets ridiculously competitive, rather than Ranma*. At first she just wants Kodachi to buzz off, but after Asuka insults Ranma after an unflattering first impression, Akane gets angry and takes it as an affront to her own ego, too, thinking "He's not as bad as all that!" and wanting to primp him up and show him off, even if it’s as a very temporary date of Kodachi's.

Also, man, she looks adorable primping her guy in the second panel. And I both think Ranma clears up nice (and so does Takahashi, I think, going by him getting presented in that "above all the other panels" way) and that his line here is hilarious in his self-importance.

*To clarify: Akane showing competitiveness is normal, but following it to absurd degrees tends to be more Ranma's domain.

Oh, Ranma! It has stuck with me more than almost any other manga I've read.
