This fic was supposed to be done in time for Gintoki's birthday last October or at least just a little later. Well, things happened, I was tired, things kept happening, I found it hard to get into my writing groove again, and then it also took me time to figure out where to end the story and (among other things) figure out what on Earth Katsura was going to give Gintoki. It was supposed to just be this simple, silly story, and it remained quite simple and silly and didn't even turn out very long. But it still took its time all the same - sometimes stories are just like that. Or writers are just like that.
I finally finished it in time for Katsura's birthday instead! Comments are very welcome, including constructive criticism!

She doesn’t like ghost stories, hates haunted houses; but here at home, in their fortress, such thoughts don’t scare her. On nights like these, Tae can walk here in the house, in the dojo, through the moonlit garden. Avoiding the creaky floorboards, the night-time city noises muffled beyond the walls. The first part of the title, "To Make Our Fate A Friend", is taken from a line in one of Swedish poet Karin Boye's poems as translated into English by David McDuff. Link to the poem is here, although the rest of the poem does not have any strong relation to the story - I just really liked that one line.
I grew up with retellings of the Norse myths both fairly faithful ones and rather wild freewheeling ones, and have kept returning to old takes and take delight in many new ones in adulthood. Like many others I find Loki endlessly fascinating, and I was so happy to read the recipient's letter and find they do not care for negative depictions of Sigyn, as that is the same with me. Very little is known in the recorded stories about Sigyn, even less about Angrboda, so I still had to make up a lot. Which was fun!
(Angrboda is the name of the giantess, or Jotun woman if you prefer, with whom Loki fathered the Midgård Serpent, Fenrir, and Hel.)
Confession that it wasn't until I got this fic assignment that I actually went to the library and got the Poetical Edda (in Swedish translation, of course) and read it for the first time.

I wanted to use the prompt "back alley" which is popular on the Japanese side of Ginzura Twitter, and I guess this is the result. Didn't turn up as hot as I'd hoped, but my fics seldom do. I hope it will still be of some enjoyment to somebody.

There's a set of three prompts for each days which can be seen in this pinned tweet on the Twitter account - except for the last day, the 26th, which only has the prompt "Big Brother", as that day is also Oboro's birthday.
There's been some wonderful stuff written and drawn already, and the organizing accounts do their best to reblog/retweet it, so please check out those accounts if you like to read such content!
I've taken part so far by drawing for Day 1, choosing the prompt "Chores", and for Day 2, choosing the prompt "Magic".
I'm afraid I haven't had any ideas for the prompts for Day 3, so I skipped that one and went directly to Day 4. I picked the prompt "Dream" from Competition/Sacrifice/Dream and this time went for text instead of image.
This is a ficlet from Nobume's POV from some point in time before the Farewell Shinsengumi arc, but after the canon starts and maybe after the Courtesan of a Nation arc. Today November 9 is the day when chapter 563 of Gintama first came out in Japan, in 2015. It's a chapter that's very relevant to those of us who ship Gintoki/Katsura with a meaningful childlhood flashback in it.
[Right as I write this the date has actually changed in Sweden to 10 November, but it's still the right day in many places of the world, so I press on! And I did manage to post the first half of this shortfic before midnight!]

If it ends up as part of a longer fic, it will probably be called something like "[X] Times When Kotaro Katsura Fell Ill And [Y] Of The Many, Many, Many Times When He Didn't".
But for now, I'm just posting this scene on Dreamwidth. Constructive criticism is very welcome. The ending especially could probably use some more lines (maybe something from the morning next day, even).
