Going from manga knowledge only, as always...

One True Pairing Ship: Ranma/Akane (though I'm not saying they don't have issues)

Canon Ship: Er... wait... LET ME THINK... I'll say Ranma/Akane. ;p (There are really about three canon ships anyway, conting Genma/Nodoka.)

"If this happens I'll stab my eyes out with a spork" Ship: ...actually, there are quite a few of these in this fandom. izarrely enough the deeper I got into the fandom the less open-minded I got, at least when it comes to splitting up the main couple. But among the more popular pairings, Mousse/Shampoo pretty much always makes me gag. And Ranma/Kasumi is so not my thing.

"I dabble a little" Ship: Ranma/Ryoga/Akane.;) (Though there'd be lots of angst at first.)

"It's like a car crash" Ship: I'm tempted to echo you and go with Kuno/Ranma as the best candidate here. I'll throw in Nodoka/Principal Kuno as well, though. (But again, many possible choices! Except as soon as I make a crack one I stop and think "But... maaaaybe..." ^_^)

"Tickles my fancy but not sold just yet" Ship: Mousse/Ukyo. Also maybe Pantyhose Taro/Kasumi, which I saw as a sideplot in one fic though I believe it was just to put more tension into what would end up as Tofu/Kasumi. It could be an absolute car crash, but I'm not sure... might be interesting to investigate.

"Makes no canon sense but why the Hell not" Ship: Mousse/Benten from UY (tough alien biker chick with very few clothes). My crack crossover OTP!! I could so totally see this. XD Actually, maybe Pantyhose Taro/Kasumi should belong here instead.

"Everyone else loves it but I just don't feel it" Ship: Ukyo/Ryoga. I love them both and I think they have a lot to offer each other as friends... but I just can't see them as a couple. Also, Nabiki/Kuno - at least as an obvious thing in manga canon.

And you know, about getting deeper into fandom and being less open-minded... I think that's kind of normal. For me, even non-shipping-wise, I have trouble accepting new characters as "real" characters. Like in One Piece, I know the crew is the crew is the crew, and I love 'em all, but there's this part of me that says the real crew is the first five.

I never got far enough to see Akari (?) in the manga. Was she nice?

Very nice, in a not terribly colourful but somewhat loopy way. Some feel she's rather saccharine, and I don't think we've seen a lot of depth there, but I still found myself liking her when she eventually turned up. Basically, she's very feminine, rather shy and timid, not very assertive, head-over-heels in love with Ryoga, thinks pigs are the best thing on Earth (but she fell in love with him before finding out about his curse, though when she learned it he was the Only Man Possible in her eyes). She seems to have no clue about Ryoga's feelings for Akane and indeed has made good friends of both Ranma and Akane (but she doesn't seem the type to get crazy with jealousy if she were to learn about Ryoga's feelings, either). She doesn't seem to know about the P-chan situation either, though that's not certain. Also, she looks a lot like Kagome did at the start of the Inu-Yasha manga. Maybe they're cousins. ;)

I'm not sure if they're right for each other in the long haul or not, but I do think both are likely to give the relationship a damn good try, so they wouldn't break up that easily. I also think that since Ryoga is one of Takahashi's favourite characters she wouldn't saddle him with a girlfriend that would be really bad for him. So I see it as, even if they break up sometime, the relationship is more likely to be a good than a bad thing for Ryoga. (Sorry to ramble on so!)

I wrote a couple of scenes of this back in the day, shown to practically no-one even though they're not smutty. Quite disjointed and rather angsty even though they moved towards a reasonably happy, ménage-à-trois solution. I kinda doubt that Ranma and Ryoga are really attracted towards one another in canon, though, so I had to think of it as just slightly AU to justify myself. ^_^

(nods) I can't help but feel that way, too. And then Chopper to me may be just slightly more crew than Robin, because he was part of the Alabasta team, when she was on the other side... and the Skypiea Seven also seem a bit more "real crew" to me than the current nine. I'm sure the Seven all love one another, but I'm doubtful whether they all love Franky and Brook. Feel a lot of affection, trust and respect for, yes. Love, yes for some of them, but perhaps not all.

One True Pairing Ship: Luffy/Usopp - the first pairing I warmed up to, and still the one I like the best

Canon Ship: I'd like to say Usopp/Kaya, but that one isn't really confirmed as two-sided yet, and neither is Caimie/Hachi. So I'll go with Strawhats/Adventure!

"If this happens I'll stab my eyes out with a spork" Ship: Hm. Not sure. I mean, I don't like Luffy/Zoro as a romantic/sexual thing... but that's with Zoro as he is now. Post-Mihawk might be a different story. And I don't think I'd care for some kind of "official" Luffy/Nami - like if he marries her and everything - but Oda might be able to pull it off, who knows? I don't see the ground for Luffy/Sanji at all, but I'm also very very sure it will never happen. So, I dunno. I'm going for Chopper/Anyone if Chopper is still at his current age and behaviour, 'cause I still think he's just too young (also, Oda has said he's not attracted to humans, but of course Oda has the right to change his mind).

"I dabble a little" Ship: Er... quite a few of these, though I'm not sure if "dabbling" refers to writing, reading or merely imagining. Like Red Shirt Trio, Luffy/Nami/Usopp; Nami/Usopp, Zoro/Usopp, Sanji/Usopp; Nami/Vivi, Nami/Robin... But mostly Franky/Robin. PRACTICALLY CANON.

"It's like a car crash" Ship: Most CP9 pairings I can think of, with some crashes more entertaining than others.;p
Actually, notwithstanding lots of neat fics that say otherwise, I could easily see Zoro/Sanji turning out this way, too.

"Tickles my fancy but not sold just yet" Ship: Zoro/Brook maybe? (I'd prefer it non-sexual even though I've heard a theory about Brook's devil fruit abilites that would make sex possible. But I still don't think Zoro would be comfortable with that.) Sanji/Usopp often seems less convincing to me when it's written as an explicitly romantic thing rather than friendship-with-undertones (or friendship-with-benefits), but I don't really know why.

"Makes no canon sense but why the Hell not" Ship: Well, lately there's been cracky Usopp/Smoker, for which I TOTALLY blame you, by the way. ;) And now that I've written Paulie/Kaya, I kinda think that could work, if the Usopp thing doesn't happen.

Zoro/Sanji is the overshadowing one, of course, and I'm not that hot on it... but I can feel it, with the better writers (as ecphrastic proved recently, for instance). I dislike Luffy/Zoro and Luffy/Sanji much more, for quite different reasons. But those aren't nearly as popular. So I can't really pick one here.

When ever I ship Usopp with someone other then Kaya I useraly think to myself that they have been writing letters to each other the whole. (Kaya calls Usopp's Ni-chan because that strikes me as *adorable* and also make kaya free to pursue anyone else.)

But mostly I think if you accept that as having then when Kaya gets together with someone else Usopp comes back to make sure the other person is worthy of his miss Kaya in a big brother/best friend type of way. This now leads me to picturing Usopp and Pualie sitting down together and having a manly bonding thing of manly men where Usopp double checks that Paulie hasn't changed for the worse since they last met and would take care of Miss Kaya properly.

I was sure you'd already guessed about my guilt responsibility for the Usopp/Smoker fics! ^_^ Since I'm pretty sure I used small fonts in the comments, and also I think I'm fairly unusual in eschewing Japanese honorifics ("young Smoker" rather than "Smoker-kun" in Sogeking-speak). But I would never ever have written that if not for your prompt AND the cover of anon-ness!

(Actually I even felt slightly guilty about the implied dub-com of the first scenario, despite its crackiness... though I never actually specified how far Usopp did go.;))

The Brook theory: I think this was from some forum, probably AP forums. A poster suggested that the Yami Yami fruit allows Brook to do whatever he feels he needs to do that he shouldn't be able to do without a fully functional body. So if Brook feels the need to eat, the fruit lets him eat. Shitting goes along with eating, so the fruit lets him do that, too. If he feels the need to cry, the fruit lets him shed tears; if he feels the need to express lust, the fruit lets him have nosebleeds, and so on. All this without the organs that should be needed to do all this. In my "Bagatelles" fic I let Usopp wonder how Brook taste things without a tongue - well, maybe the fruit lets him have some sort of incorporeal, invisible tongue, only it's not really "there" unless he needs it (although he does need it whenever he talks, too, of course).

Thus if Brook feels the need to have sex without any "real", corporeal genitals, the fruit will probably allow him to do that, according to this theory. The problem would then more be if his partner wouldn't freak out over it. And though Brook obviously does feel lust, he might not want to scare the ones he cares for in that fashion. POSSIBLE ANGST AHOY? nah, probably not. ^_^

Oh! I like that, though not literally the "Ni-chan" part since I don't think they speak Japanese. I like the spirit of it, though! Then I guess the Usopp Pirates were drawing the wrong conclusions about Kaya back in chapter 440 or wherever it was when they said "Captain had better not make her unhappy..." That's quite possible, of course.

I really like this angle, too! It never occurred to me but that would be pretty sweet. And actually it could still work even if Kaya has been in love with Usopp previously...

Speaking of which, I thought of another "makes no canon sense" ship: Merry the human and Iceburg. What if Merry somehow gets the opportunity to brave the dangers of the Grand Line and go to the shipwrights' Mecca, Water 7? I'm sure Iceburg would be happy to meet the man who designed the remarkable ship which spoke to him, and to tell Merry about the last day of his namesake. And who knows if they found out they have other things in common...?
I posted something about this in the op_fanforall but got no takers. Well, I guess it does come across as rather random... ;)

ahaha. I only use the japanese for when the translation doesn't feel like the character's voice. Like using genin and chuurin and sensai for Naruto character. And Robin calling people mister instead of san and things feels weird. And Sanji's voice sounds funny to my mental ears if he calls Nami baby instead of swan.

Well since it is Usopp I like to think he would have stopped if Smoker really wanted him to. Usopp probably kept thinking Smoker was sending 'please be seducing me' singals instead of 'I don't like this' signals

To me it's kinda the other way around - it feels weirder to have them suddenly speak Japanese words and word endings because then my mind does a brief blip and I can't help but silently protest "BUT THEY'RE NOT JAPANESE" practically every single time. ^_^ I seem to be very much in the minority, though.

But I might well feel otherwise if I'd come to One Piece primarily through watching subs or through reading scanlations that keep the honorifics, instead of through the Swedish manga translations, in which the honorifics get dropped or translated (as I think they should).

Maybe Sanji should call Nami "Mademoiselle Nami". Just kidding! ;D

Hmm, no idea about Yasopp's reactions.

I imagine the crew would be pretty damn incredulous at first. Once they understand that the relationship is real (assuming they do ;p), I figure some of them might be impressed while others might wonder about Usopp's taste. But at least some of them would probably go "hey hey hey, what's with all this 'sleeping with the enemy' business?". At which point Usopp would probably sulk and grumble, "everyone else gets to have clandestine forbidden love affairs, so why can't I", and Sanji would ask "whaddaya mean, everybody else?"

If it's cracky enough, Luffy will be in the mood he shows in thermopylae_h's awesome To Walk The Plank (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2897068/2/Parodies_of_the_One_Piece_Kind), and will either suddenly decide to be a moralist and order Usopp to Stop Doing Kinky Stuff With Far-Too-Old Marines, Or Else - or he'll decide everyone in the crew will need to have clandestine forbidden love affairs at the end of the week or walk the plank, so start moving, Sanji. ;p

It is a fluff piece. The whole point is to be snuggly and sweet.

(In that hypothetical crack fic, I see Chopper carrying out a clandestine forbidden correspondence of love letters with, hm, let's say Alvida... Oda's said he's not attracted to humans physically, but he can fall in love with somebody's soul, and that counts! ;D)
