Happy Birthday, Luffy!

Today is Luffy's birthday! I've got two pics, such as they are. (I wanted to draw something inspired by a fic-in-progress I'm betaing for tonko_ni, but couldn't manage it, alas.)

The first one is a semi-angsty pic set in Water 7 during the days when the crew is waiting for the ship to be built and Luffy stays in all day in case Usopp comes around. (Crossposted to dualcaptains.)

This pic has been long in coming as it gave me more trouble than usual, leading me to ask for advice from two pic betas, horusguard76 and wendytigges. Thanks awfully! <33 If it's turned out at all decent, it's due to their help - however, it's not their fault if it hasn't, as I'm posting my last version unseen.




Erg, I realise it may look like he's praying, which was NOT my intention - he's just clasping his hands in his lap for want of anything better to do. ...Also, his head is too big, I think.


Second pic is with Luffy, Chopper, Usopp and Nami on a flying carpet. It really should have been coloured and with more detail, but there wasn't enough time...

I love the second pic! Luffy would love a flying carpet (if you made a carpet eat a bird fruit...?)! Nami's comment is perfect! And it seems she can navigate flying carpets as well (of course she can!).

Yep, of course she can! I'm thinking Nami would probably have been rather apprehensive at first, but once she figured out how to steer the thing she'd start enjoying the ride.

Aww, the first one... he'll be back soon, Luffy! (I didn't think he was praying, for what it's worth) Nice job on the Galley-La logo, btw.

LOL I'm hearing the Aladdin song in my head for the second one. Love Nami's astute observation (and her binoculars!). Also love Usopp's ponytail. I want Oda to do a whole arc with that hairstyle someday.

:D They should have been wearing Arabian Nights-esque outfits, but then I'd have to go back to the Alabastan arc to make sure Nami wouldn't get the same thing, and, well, lack of time... (plus, what would Chopper get? ;)) Actually the whole thing should have been bigger. And there should be a second carpet for the rest of the crew!

(nod nod) There should totally be an Usopp Ponytail Arc.

Ahhhh! The first one - it's finally done! <333

I love the 'small-boy' look on Luffy's face there. Just perfectly fitting for that header. And turned out really well. :) Great work!

The second one is so wonderfully lively - love the magic carpet idea. :) You have managed to capture Luffy extremely well - starting with the expression to his proportions. Fantastic. Especially his feet look so natural - great work there! (I am a sucker for details, but you know that already. hehe)

Great touch to have Nami being so rational and fact-based. hehe I can already imagine them all screaming when they 'realize' that they are high up in the air. hehe. And her hair!!! I can literally feel the wind there. :) Wow, great work.

Ooh, thanks muchly for the feet compliment! They're hard to draw. Heck, everything tends to be hard for me to draw except some faces - sometimes.
