Got tagged by this fanfic meme by
thermopylae_h and figured I might take a whack of it even though I'm not too prolific (and fairly obscure).;)
1. Which is your favourite fic?
Right now I probably like "A Quiet Walk in the Noonday Heat" the best, but since it was finished just the other week it feels far too early to say for sure. After that, probably "Bringing Him In".
Honourable mention: "Walking from Chachamaru". Because it's the best sonnet I've ever written, weirdly enough. And I think it fits that moment in "Maison Ikkoku" well.
2. Which is your best-received fic?
Of One Piece fics, "Quiet Walk". It's also the longest one by far. And then "Bringing Him In".
Of Ranma 1/2 fics, probably "The P-chan Letters". Not on ffnet, but I seem to remember that it got a bit of attention on the FFML way back when. "We'll See" got some neat and useful commentary there too.
3. Which is your worst-received fic?
There's been a couple of Ranma poems that never got any response at all, and also that one odd West Wing thing I wrote, not that I can fault the readers for that - it was really fragmentary and probably shouldn't have been posted in the first place.
The Luffy/Usopp shortfic I posted here just two entries ago got an appreciative response by
scribe_protra, which was very nice, but none at all on
dualcaptains. That was a letdown. :(
Never really had any chiefly negative reactions to any of my fics. They're too tame for that, I guess.
4. Which is your angstiest fic?
I suppose the OP drabbles "The Thought of Giving Up" and "Won't Stop" are pretty angsty. For longer fics, the Ranma "Letters" trilogy (the one with "The P-chan Letters" as the middle part) probably has the most angst in it, although it ends on a hopeful note.
5. Which is your funniest fic?
I should probably pass on this one since I've never written a predominantly humourous fic. Actually, come to think of it, quite a few funny dialogue parts I've done are in unfinished drafts only (I won't post what I'm not sure I can finish).Like the Luffy/Nami/Usopp one or the OP/Ranma crossover. I wonder what that says about me?
6. Smuttiest?
None. I can't write smut. It's there in the head all right, but it won't get down in the pen or keyboard. Probably a combination of a prudish mental barrier and an unwillingness to try something unfamiliar and possibly make a fool of oneself.
7. Fluffiest?
The aforementioned Luffy/Usopp shortfic. And Ranmawise, "We'll See" has a certain quiet WAFFy feel to it, or at least it's supposed to.
8. Have you ever made someone cry with a fic?
I very much doubt it.
9. Which fic frustrates you the most?
...Well, there's this Ranma/FMA crossover thing I've been planning for ages but totally lost momentum on, probably because my Fullmetal obsession lessened. But there it seems to be the motivation that's to blame rather than the fic.
...Oh, and that not-really-Paulie/Usopp thing I mentioned in my last livejournal entry. XD (Nothing really happens and I can't stop the stupid thing. They just keep talking and drinking and drinking and talking and occasionally kissing and talking and drinking and singing.)
10. Which fic was the most fun to write?
Two Ranma poems which were my first and so far only successes at writing according to the scheme of a ballade (old French verse form).
And "Quiet Walk", because that initial bizarre image of Zoro in a deserted city with a small talking Luffyesque bird actually led somewhere when I trusted my impulse and just ran along with it. That was exciting.
11. Who is your favorite OC you've ever created?
Eh, don't really have one. Zoro's unnamed opponent in "Quiet Walk" is probably my only real OC in any finished, posted fic of mine, and I tried really hard to make her as unobtrusive and unreal as I could.
12. Are you better at oneshot or multipart?
(looks at track record) I've posted only two multiparts - the "Letters" trilogy and "Quiet Walk". So, I guess oneshots.
13. Which character do you think you're the best at portraying?
For One Piece, Usopp (my favourite). And I think I write Luffy and Nami fairly decently too. Still not too sure about Zoro though I seem to write him quite a bit.
For Ranma 1/2, Ryoga and Akane, again my favourites. Though I may have a tendency to write them as somewhat smarter and possibly nicer than they really are in canon. (And also less funny, alas.)
14. Which character is the most difficult to portray?
For One Piece: Franky, then Robin, then Chopper. And considering Sanji's one of my absolute favourites in the manga it's surprising how little I've written him. Maybe he's just too normal.
For Ranma: Oh, lots. Ranma himself isn't that easy to pin down. Then too it's also odd how I've hardly written Ukyo at all even in unfinished drafts, although she's definitely one of my favourite characters in the series (second favourite
female, in fact). Oh, and I really wish I could write a good Kuno, because he can be soo funny when done well.

I don't know that many! But maybe
scribe_protra if she wants to, and hasn't been tagged already?

Date: 2008-03-15 05:51 pm (UTC)I didn't know you liked Akane too, that's cool!
I've written lots more unfinished and unposted drafts though - beginnings or middles with no clear ending in sight, typical for me. The last ones I wrote were - predictably perhaps - stabs at crossovers with One Piece. One shortish where Akane explained why she really hoped Ranma and Luffy would never meet (I could post this here if you're interested?). And one longer which was a fight between Zoro and Ryoga but with focus more on the conversation between Akane and Usopp looking on. This latter one actually had some good dialogue, but it descended into P-chan angst and then I didn't really know how to go from there. I didn't want to write a huge crossover epic with a big dramatic storyline, but I couldn't see a decent ending in sight either. But again, that's fairly typical.
