I wrote a Gintama ficlet/shortfic of the type "fix the tragic past". The alternative turn of affairs in this past might not necessarily fix it -- the odds were rather against them -- but it would at least lead to better chances. Or so I would like to think.

This has Gintama backstory spoilers up to and including anime episode 328/manga chapter... I'm actually not entirely sure, but let's say 594 to be on the safe side. The end of the Battle of Rakuyo arc, in any case.
