Author’s notes: I used a honorific here for the fist time ever, for metrical reasons (usually I eschew them). Nevertheless, I’ve been taking some liberties with the meter as well. Suggestions for improvement quite welcome!



There’s other things that keep me going, true –
The wind, the sea, the wonders on our way,
The dream I follow; our idiot captain too,
Who keeps on fighting on the darkest day;

And actually, despite their silliness,
Each shitty dumbass moron in our crew;
Plus Robin-chan’s amazing loveliness --
I may need them as much as I need you.

Yet out of all those things that just feel right,
For pure, resplendent joy, there’s none as strong,
As simply waking up after the night,
Then stepping out on deck, where I belong,
And see you smiling in the early morning light.
